How we estimate
- Public pricing (Steppr, Userguiding, Userflow, Product Fruits, Userpilot Starter) uses each vendor's published tiers. Steppr's figures are exact.
- Quote-only tools (Appcues, Pendo, WalkMe, Whatfix, Chameleon Growth+) use third-party benchmarks - primarily Vendr aggregated deal data - and are flagged with a ~ symbol.
- Figures are monthly-equivalent. Different tools meter differently - MAU, MTU (Chameleon), or guide views (Stonly) - which we note inline. Negotiated deals and annual commitments vary, so estimates are directional.

Frequently asked questions
- How much do product onboarding tools cost?
- It ranges enormously. Self-serve tools with public pricing start around $29–$300/month for a few thousand MAU (Steppr from $29, Product Fruits from ~$96, Userguiding from $174, Userflow from $240, Userpilot from $299). Quote-only tools run far higher: Appcues typically lands in the four figures a month, and enterprise Digital Adoption Platforms like Pendo, WalkMe, and Whatfix commonly cost $30,000–$150,000+ per year. Most tools price by Monthly Active Users (MAU), so your bill scales with your user base.
- Which onboarding tool is cheapest?
- Among tools with public pricing, Steppr is the cheapest entry point at $29/month for 2,500 MAU with a hard cap and no overages. Product Fruits (~$96/mo) and a free Pendo tier (up to 500 MAU) are the next-lowest. Enterprise DAPs (WalkMe, Whatfix, Pendo paid) are the most expensive by a wide margin. Use the calculator above to compare at your own user volume.
- Why do Appcues, Pendo, and WalkMe hide their pricing?
- Quote-only pricing lets vendors price each deal to the buyer, bundle in implementation and annual commitments, and avoid anchoring against cheaper competitors. The downside for buyers is that you cannot budget without a sales call. Our estimates for these tools come from third-party benchmarks (primarily Vendr aggregated deal data) and are clearly labelled as estimates.
- How accurate is this calculator?
- Steppr's own numbers are exact list prices. For tools with public pricing, we use their published tiers. For quote-only tools, we show benchmarked estimates from third-party deal data and mark them with a ~ symbol and a source. Pricing changes and negotiated deals vary, so treat estimates as directional, not quotes. Every figure was verified in June 2026 against the vendor's pricing page or a cited benchmark.
- What's the difference between MAU, MTU, and guide views?
- MAU (Monthly Active Users) counts unique users who use your product in a month - the most common billing metric. MTU (Monthly Tracked Users, used by Chameleon) is effectively the same idea under a different name. Guide views (used by Stonly) bills each time a user opens a guide, so a single user can generate many billable events - which makes cost harder to forecast. Steppr bills on MAU with a hard cap, so the bill never exceeds your plan.
